Evening Safari, 13/09/99

After lunch and settling in to the lodge we set out on safari. Although the lodge itself is outside the park boundary, there isn't any perimeter and so we found ourselves spotting as soon as we left the lodge boundary.

Masai Giraffe

Black Backed Jackal
      F
You can clearly see the grey patch on this Topi's rump.
I think this cheetah must have recently eaten as usually they would be hunting at this time and be very attentive. This one was quite content to sleep and paid no attention to us at all.

We came across this group of giraffe straddling the road as all the other mini-buses departed for their safari. So it was a bit busy and the giraffe were a bit unnerved and tended to run from any vehicle that came too close. I got a few good running shots, but they were spoilt by vehicles or sunlight.
White Bellied Bustard

Topi
Lappet-faced Vulture
We caught this Lappet-faced Vulture after skirting some bushes to get a better shot of a female lion. We did manage to see it but the photos were masked by the grass. The vulture is looking towards the bushes and so he maybe hopeful of scavenging a meal once the lioness has moved on.
