Evening Safari, 13/09/99

After driving up the dried river valley towards Sekanani Gate we turned round and started back to the lodge. We spotted what I believe was an eland as we approached our turning point, but it had drifted off before we got within photo range.

Guineafowl

We passed right by this family of elephants which included some babies. Unfortunately as the light was failing the photos didn't come out too well & this was the best shot. We can't be too disappointed as elephants are two-a-penny in Kenya & we see them on every safari.
Baboon with baby

The lodge bait this tree to encourage the mongoose to scavenge for the meat. The tree is lit to ensure we can see it feeding, but the light doesn't help the camera - hence the poor image quality.

We were just returning to the lodge when we saw this baboon with its' baby. But we couldn't hang around as the driver was desperate to show us the leopard and light was already failing.

This Marabou Stork stayed up the tree all night. It was still there in the morning.
Leopard
G
The driver had been pre-warned that this leopard maybe in the vicinity as another driver had spotted its' kill in a nearby tree earlier in the day & so they knew it was likely to come back for a feed later. This was Alison's first leopard and this alone made this safari worthwhile!
