Keekerok to Mara River, 14/09/99

These wildebeest were moving westward towards the Mara River on the hill rising from Keekerok. This was just a small sample of the herds of wildebeest we found strewn across the plains. It is difficult to get a good photograph from ground level.

At last we managed to catch the elusive eland. We spotted this one among all the wildebeest heading towards the Mara River.

Wildebeest

We had hoped to see wildebeest and zebra crossing the river, but nobody was playing today or else they were crossing elsewhere. All we managed to see at this point were a few hippopotami lounging in the river. They weren't even coming out in the noonday sun.
