Mara River to the Mara Simba Lodge, 14/09/99

This trip was a bit ambitious, especially as our fellow travellers had to get back to the lodge before lunch, as they were leaving immediately afterwards.
Even taking this into account our driver couldn't pass up the opportunity to cross the boundary into Tanzania, which he did shortly after leaving the river.

This vulture was having a good feed on the wildebeest. There wasn't any real indication of how it had died but the carcass was pretty much intact. The jackal below was wary of going too close while the vulture was there, but he would be in there as soon as he could for a good free meal.

Black Backed Jackal Hyena
This was Alison's first view of a rhino, but it wasn't much at c. 2 miles away. I had been looking at it for a little while but didn't recognise what I was looking at!

Coke's Hartebeest
Although we came across these two hartebeest shortly after one another they weren't together as far as we could tell. The baby is therefore vulnerable to predators and possibly wouldn't last the day.

This hippo was in the river immediately opposite the bar and dining room at the Mara Simba Lodge. We saw him on a few occasions.
