On the Mara Plain, 14/09/99

Masai Giraffe
This shot is unusual in that we haven't come across giraffe sitting/lying down before.
Thomson's Gazelle
Spotted Hyena
This is a marvellous shot of two hyena relaxing in the shade at the end of a long hot day. We've never seen two before, let alone this close.
Black Backed Jackal
This jackal was tracking the hyena. When they eventually had enough of the tourists they cut off across the plain with the jackal in tow. He was probably hoping to scavenge off some of their kills.
On our previous trip to the Mara we were able to drive right up close to the cheetah. As the Kenya Wildlife Service now prevent the tour buses driving off defined tracks we couldn't get any closer to them. There were buses on all three sides as far away as we were.
