Aruba, 29/12/99

Aruba lake was formed when the dam was built across Voi River. It is located roughly in the middle of the public area of Tsavo East National Park ( the park area North of the Galana River isn't open to the public ). The lake provides water to the wildlife all year round and so is a popular safari stop.

The lodge has been abandoned for many years, but a small shop was established in 1999 and there are now rumours that somebody has bought it and intends to bring it back to life again.

Our lunch stop was extended unexpectedly on this occasion as a young Kenyan girl who lived in the area was suffering badly from malaria and the drivers took her to Voi for treatment.

Birds at Aruba Dam. Waterbuck
F
Notice how the Waterbuck keep to the shade to cool them from the midday sun. We often see them in this area to the North and East of Aruba Dam.
Male Impala
Impala are often seen grazing on the old airstrip outside Aruba.

This shot of our intrepid explorers was opportunist, taken as they looked at Aruba Lake. Hence it was taken without too much consideration for lighting etc.
