Animals Along the Lower Galana River, 30/12/99

Vervet Monkey
G
We came across the monkey scampering along the branch as we reached the river. On previous trips we had stopped beneath this tree, had a quick drink and hoped to see crocodiles in the river.
'Egyptian Geese' always conjures up an impression of them doing a Sand Dance instead of waddling!

The Common Waterbuck is found extensively in Kenya and can be distinguished from the Defassa Waterbuck by the 'toilet seat' white patch on its' rump.

The Gerenuk is a long necked antelope which it uses to reach the upper leaves of the bush. This gives it a unique grazing height, especially as it stretches to the full on its' hind legs. The Swahili name literally translates as the 'Giraffe Antelope'.
