| Tsavo National Park is larger than Wales, covering an area of 8,000 sq miles. Situated midway between Mombasa and Nairobi, open plains alternate with savannah, bush and semi desert scrub. It is split into two parks, separated by the Mombasa-Nairobi road. Tsavo East National Park lies to the north & east and Tsavo West National Park to the west. The map and photographs are from our first trip to Tsavo East, and as you can see from the pictures of Lugards's Falls and the Galana River, the river was very low, as a consequence of the dry summer. It is possible to get very close the the animals - as you can see from the Elephant at Voi - as long as you don't unduly rouse them - unlike the picture of the Elephant at the middle right of the map. The thumbnail pictures within the map are from this safari to Tsavo East in January 1997.
