| The conditions in December 1997 were vastly different to January the same year - when the season had been very wet. In fact, we'd been lucky to go on safari at all, managing to go in a two-week window when the camp was actually open, due to the heavy rains. The camp was originally closed when an earlier safari party had to be rescued from the rains. Shortly after we came back, the whole camp was literally swept away in heavy floods. This is when I had the idea of creating a 'pictorial travelogue', as visitors both before and after us on the 1997 safaris claimed not to have seen any game at all - which we found very surprising.
